Strategic trade controls are inherently sensitive; they deal with issues on the front pages of daily newspapers and with now-everyday terms such as weapons of mass destruction, bioterrorism, proliferation of strategic technology and other issues at the intersection of national security and economics. To "know the rules" that apply now may not be enough, and to plan for an uncertain future, a company's marketing, exporting and risk-management staff must know what may be ahead.
MK Technology is in
the thick of this process. Our experts are
leading members of key industry groups: the
Industry Coalition on
Technology Transfer; the National Council on
International Trade
Development; and broadly-based business
community Working Groups on
trade-control legislation, visa restrictions
and similar issues. We
have close working ties with the National
Foreign Trade Council and its
USA*ENGAGE coalition representing US and other
enterprises on economic
sanctions and other trade restrictions. We
also are closely connected
with similar groups abroad.
As noted, an MK Technology member founded and chairs the Compliance and Enforcement Working Group of the Commerce Department's industry advisory committee on export regulation, and is an active member of its Encryption Working Group. He also has been called in as a munitions-export policy adviser to the Defense Department and to the Center for Strategic and International Studies, a leading strategic "think tank" in Washington. MK Technology actively follows (and often directly influences) developments in national and international trade controls which impact exporters and other international traders.
MK Technology has extensive experience in areas related to export compliance. For example, one of our experts played an active role in the Sino-US Export Control Conference in Shanghai, accompanied US authorities on plant inspections, and conducted follow-up meetings with US and Chinese authorities in Beijing. As the Chair of the Compliance and Export Enforcement Working Group in the Bureau of Industry and Security's industry advisory committee he also was the principal author of industry advice on "best practices" for sensitive "transshipment hubs" around the world, on new Penalty Guidelines for Settlements, and on other regulations still under review.
