Ms. Clements is a Global Trade Compliance Consultant who recently joined MK as a Senior Consultant. For the past three years she has run her own consulting company, Barbara Clements and Associates, working in the area of global trade compliance and has worked as an approved ITAR directed auditor for DDTC including an assignment for a small defense manufacturer and a U.S. defense manufacturing  Fortune 500 Company. She has worked directly with freight carriers, forwarders, brokers and company Business Units in developing Standard Operating Procedures and company policies and guidelines, developing corrective action plans to manage liability risk exposure and prevent export violations.

 

From 2004 through 2008 she was the Global Trade Compliance Senior Manager for Thermo Fisher Scientific with compliance responsibilities for 544 sites totaling 367 business units in 39 countries. She interfaced with internal and external legal counsel to provide the information necessary for submissions to government authorities and was the main point of contact for DDTC, BIS and OFAC. Her responsibilities included leadership of a team developing metrics and conducting audits of import and export activities.

 

Previous to her work for Thermo Fisher she was the owner and President of C&C International Services where she worked for a number of companies performing internal audits of customs import entries to meet CBP requirements and her efforts led to successful penalty mitigation results.  In the period from 1996 through 2001 she was contracted by CMS Defense Systems (formerly General Dynamics) where she was responsible for securing ATF Permit and Department of State license applications for defense articles. She was responsible for export/import compliance, product classification, and education of employees on compliance matters.
