Farah Press is a Consultant with MK Technology, where she advises U.S. and overseas clients on compliance with U.S. Department of Commerce export regulations covering dual-use items as well as on similar issues under the International Traffic in Arms (ITAR) munitions export regulations administered by the State Department's Directorate of Defense Trade Controls (DDTC) and under economic sanctions regimes administered by the Treasury Department's Office of Foreign Assets Control or OFAC.
Prior to joining MK Technology, Farah Press was an official of the Commerce Department's Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) and the DoC's International Trade Administration (ITA). At ITA, she handled market access issues affecting U.S. businesses operating in Singapore, Indonesia, and the Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN). She worked closely with U.S. industry, other U.S. diplomats and foreign officials to remove trade barriers in those countries and to prevent the creation of new ones. At BIS, she evaluated license applications and advised companies and individuals on export regulations and the licensing/classification process. She also was responsible for analyzing U.S. dual-use export control policies to ensure their alignment with U.S. foreign policy and national security objectives in South Asia, the Middle East and the Americas. Also in BIS, Farah Press administered the process that imposed sanctions on dual-use exports to India and Pakistan following their 1998 nuclear tests.
Prior to the Commerce Department, she spent four years as a Legislative Assistant in the U.S. House of Representatives, advising Congressman Frank Tejeda (D-Texas) and his constituents on a wide variety of issues including trade, international relations, education, health care, agriculture, immigration, welfare, housing, women's issues and the interior.
While in graduate school, she also worked on a variety of international trade issues for the American Electronics Association, the Citizen's Network for Foreign Affairs, and the Institute for International Economics.
Farah Press holds a B.A. in Economics from the University of Texas at Austin and an M.A. in International Trade Policy from The American University in Washington.
